Join us for a presentation by Ann Arnar, author of "The Book as Instrument," a look into the power of the book as a cultural symbol in the art world.

We all love books, but do we always recognize the enduring power of the book as a cultural symbol? Join author Ann Arnar, Ph.D. ("The Book as Instrument: Stéphane Mallarmé and the Transformation of Print Culture") for a presentation based on works showcased during multiple art exhibits, which feature art works addressing broad themes such as the sociability of books, the collective memory of libraries and more from artists from different parts of the globe. The author will highlight artists which transform the book into multi-media pieces, changing the book from a static object into a dynamic tool experienced throughout time.

Ann Arnar, Ph.D. is the author of "The Book as Instrument: Stéphane Mallarmé and the Transformation of Print Culture." Arnar's book examines the French Symbolist poet's engagement with the material and cultural dimension of books in society. She is a professor of Art History at Minnesota State University Moorhead and is an Art Historian with a specialty in print culture.
