Visit the Detroit Lakes Public Library to pick out free craft supplies for your next project! 

The Detroit Lakes Public Library invites the community to participate in a craft supply swap on September 12th from 10:00 a.m.-3 p.m. If you’ve always wanted to try a new craft without investing a lot of money, then this is the perfect opportunity to find supplies for your new hobby. 

Do you have extra supplies or leftover materials from a past project? Bring them to our craft supply swap and pick up new materials for your next endeavor. This event is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome to join us!

 

How to Participate
 

1. Donate Craft Supplies

    * Craft supply donations will be accepted from September 4th through September 12th.

    * Donations should be brought to the front desk during regular library hours.

       (See guidelines below for more information about donations).

    * Anyone who donates supplies will receive a ticket for early admission to the craft supply swap!

2. The Day of the Swap

    * The swap will be held on Saturday, September 12th from 10:00 a.m. - 3 p.m. or until all supplies are gone.

    * Swappers will be given one shopping bag to fill when they arrive at the event.

    *10:00-10:30 a.m. - The first 30 minutes of the event is limited to those who donated supplies. (Please bring your ticket!)

    * 10:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. - The swap is open to the general public. Anyone may pick out craft items during this time.

    * 2:00-3:00 p.m. - During the final hour of the event, everyone is invited to take what they can use.

    * All remaining items will be considered a donation to the Detroit Lakes Public Library.

 

 
Guidelines:
    * All items should be new or very gently used, clean and dry, free from damage and in good working condition.

    * Small items (such as beads) or sets of items (like markers) should be brought in a clean container or resealable bag.

    * Please do not bring spray paint, aerosols of any kind, paint thinners, additives or unfinished craft projects.

    * The Detroit Lakes Public Library reserves the right to refuse any donated supplies deemed inappropriate for the swap.

 


 

Suggested Items to Donate- include but are not limited to:

 

Yarn
Fabric and felt
Ribbon
Knitting needles, crochet hooks, stitch counters, etc.
Needlework kits (counted cross stitch, embroidery, etc.)
Embroidery/needlework supplies (hoops, floss, etc.)
Sewing notions (thread, trim/binding, zippers, buttons, etc.)
Rubber stamps and useable ink pads
Scrapbooking or card-making supplies, scrapbook embellishments
Paper and cardstock for card-making/scrapbooking
Beads & beading supplies
Jewelry making supplies and tools
Art supplies, useable art paints, brushes, canvases, art paper
Flowers/florals/greenery and foam cores/shapes for silk floral arrangements
Decorative containers/baskets for floral arrangements
Instructional craft books and pattern books—knitting, crochet, quilting/sewing, cross-stitch
Patterns—clothing, quilting, home décor
Small wood cutouts, unpainted
Picture frames (empty), framing supplies
Craft fun foam sheets or shapes
Stencils
Useable children’s crafts—kits or supplies

The Detroit Lakes Public Library is located in downtown Detroit Lakes at the intersection of Washinton Ave. and Frazee Street. The library offers two meeting rooms, four study rooms, a legal kiosk, free Wi-Fi and much more.
