"Fly" into the library to choose your favorite kite style and get crafting! We will decorate the kites and then assemble them. Some kite styles are more difficult. All supplies are provided by the library until they are gone.

Space is limited; register by clicking the link at the left or by calling the library at 218-945-6137.

Kite Styles to Choose From

  • Sled Kite: A simple, reliable design made with parallel "spars" (straws or skewers) that give it a sled-like shape to catch the wind.
  • Malay Kite: A traditional diamond-shaped kite with a bowed cross-spar that provides stability without needing a long tail.
  • Delta Kite: A triangular, high-performance kite with a large surface area, great for flying in light winds.

Event Highlights

  • Decorate & Assemble: Use provided supplies to personalize your kite before building it.
  • Take-Home: For those who can't make it, after the event, any remaining kites will be available to take home.
  • Reading Logs: Don't forget to grab a reading log while you’re there!
Important Tips
  • Drying Time: Let your kite dry for at least one hour (or overnight for best results) before its first flight.
  • Adult Help: Kids 11 and under must have an adult helper to assist with construction.
  • Safety First: When you're ready to fly, choose a big open area away from trees and never fly near power lines.
