Julia Alvarez's historical fiction novel honors the lives the Mirabal sisters, who became icons of freedom and women’s rights when they were killed in the autumn of 1960s Dominican Republic.

Join the Fertile Public Library to discuss "In the Time of the Butterflies" by Julia Alvarez.

This historical novel is based on the real story of the four Mirabal sisters of the Dominican Republic, three of whom became symbols of resistance after being murdered at the order of the dictator Rafael Trujillo.

All are welcome, even if you haven't read "In the Time of the Butterflies." If you have any questions, email us at fertile@larl.org.

The Resolute Readers Book Club meets the third Wednesday of the month at 4:00 pm.

About the branch

The Fertile Public Library is tucked inside the Duane Knutson Community Center on Mill Street across the street from the Main Street Station & Deli. The Fertile Library is a large one-room library with access to a small meeting room and auditorium that can be reserved through the city office and 24-hour access to WiFi.
