Bid farewell to the Moorhead Public Library’s current location at 118 5th Street South and celebrate the memories and milestones that made the library the heart of the community over the years.
Join us for a special Farewell to the Building Party and help us celebrate the memories, milestones and community connections that have filled the current location at 118 5th Street South. Before we turn the page and move into our new home in The Loop, we invite you to gather one last time in this beloved space to honor its history and the people who made it matter.
The event, which is offered as part of Giving Hearts Day, will feature refreshments and snacks, short remarks from library leaders, community members and special guests reflecting on the library’s impact and sharing stories from across the decades. In partnership with the local historical society, we’ll also host a History Harvest, where community members are encouraged to bring photographs, documents and memories related to the library and its role in local life. Historical society staff will be on hand to help record stories and preserve these materials for future generations.
Whether you’ve been visiting the library for years or just discovered it recently, this is a chance to say goodbye, share your memories, and help carry the spirit of this building into our next chapter. Come celebrate the past, contribute to the historical record, and look ahead with us as we prepare for an exciting new beginning.

About the Friends of the Moorhead Library:
The mission of the Friends of the Moorhead Library is to support the collection, services and programs at the Moorhead Public Library, as well as raise funds for furnishings for a new library building
About Giving Hearts Day:
As part of a continual improvement program at Fargo, North Dakota-based Dakota Medical Foundation (DMF), Giving Hearts Day arose in 2008 as a simple but unique fundraising concept: Around Valentine’s Day, ask people to show affection to not only people they love but charities, too. In the decade-plus since, the event has gone on to become one of the longest-running and most successful giving days in the country, providing a platform for North Dakota and northwest Minnesota charities to raise nearly $165 million.
It’s not just a day, though. It’s a year-round effort. Using skills taught by DMF and Fargo-based Impact, charities build a fundraising system that they put to use on Giving Hearts Day, the “Super Bowl” of giving in the Upper Midwest. It has become the region’s day to feed the hungry, nurture the elderly, and educate tomorrow’s leaders.
The Moorhead Public Library is located in downtown Moorhead behind the Rourke Art Gallery. The library offers free WiFi, wireless printing and friendly staff to help you access the library's many resources.
