Explore Sunflowers
With the WETCC Extension Department
Tuesday, June 02
12:30pm - 1:30pm
Discover the magic of sunflowers! Join us to learn about these towering giants, plant your very own sunflower to take home, and help us brighten the Farmers Market Pavilion with vibrant chalk art.
Join us for a hands-on exploration of one of nature’s most cheerful giants: the sunflower. This interactive workshop, led by the White Earth Tribal and Community College (WETCC) Extension Department, is perfect for young gardeners and curious minds.
We will start the session by reading a story about the sunflower’s lifecycle and answering all your "growing" questions, such as:
- What do the seeds look like before they sprout?
- Where is the best spot to plant them?
- How much water and sun do they really need?
- Just how tall can a sunflower get?
- Who are the pollinators that visit these flowers, and when is it time to harvest?
Activities include:
Planting: Every child will plant a sunflower to take home and watch grow!
Community Art: After the planting is done, draw a massive "garden" of chalk sunflowers on the floor of the White Earth Community Farmers’ Market Pavilion to for the whole community to enjoy.
Come ready to learn, plant, and create!
